(Sunshine Boy/ You´re easy to love) Nasville NS 867 (1968)

The Nursery Rhymes
The Nursery Rhymes was born when the vocalist Marie Selander and the guitarist/vocalist Inger Jonsson met each other in october 1963 in Arlanda during the Beatles´ first visit in Sweden. With Jonsson´s schoolmate Gunilla Karlow (bs/vcl), they first started performing as the Dimples. In january 1965 they became the Nursery Rhymes (named after a Bo Diddley-song), and besides these three, the line-up also consisted Noni Tellbrandt (gtr/vcl) and Birgitta Nordgren (dms). The Nursery Rhymes were - naturally - very popular stage act around Stockholm, doing raw blues-stuff like John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and so on, but because they were just five beautiful c. 18- year old girls, the entertainment businesse didn´t necessarily treat them very kindly. Be that as it may, they still were one of the first Swedish band (and definitely the first Swedish girl-group) ever to tour in England, and they also had a great time in France, Austria, Spain, and Germany as well, sharing stages with such names as the Who, the Kinks, the Four Tops and the Temptations, and performing at the same TV programs with the Spencer Davis Group, Simon & Gerfunkel ect. In Finland the Nursery Rhymes visitet at Fall of 1966, appearing at the "Nuorten Tanssihetki" TV show.
Despite their bluesrock image, the Nursery Rhymes´recording material was based on quite typical mainstream pop-songs. They were also offered to make recordings in France, but because of having faith in their own musical skills, they turned the deal down: the company wanted to record their vokals only, not any instruments. By 1967, the Nursery Rhymes finally got tired of the wretchedness of the male-oriented music-life, and broke the band up.
